About Us
About Us
We create high quality homeware for wholesale to discerning retailers. Our fine bone china, kitchen textiles, art prints and stationery are all inspired by our ancestor Sophia’s delicate wildflower watercolours.
We love sharing Sophia’s wildflower story, so that her art lives on and helps promote wildflower awareness. Discover the inspiration behind our brand and why we believe in retail with purpose.
As a family business with a personal approach, we design and develop all our products ourselves, using top quality British materials. We aim to achieve the highest standards with attention to detail that comes from personal responsibility for our work.
About the Artist
Born in 1818, Sophia’s lifelong interest in British flora was nurtured by her father Richard Walker, an amateur botanist and author of The Flora of Oxfordshire.
Sophia married John Davenport in 1839 and they raised seven children in their Oxford home. She was a prolific watercolour artist, studying with William Turner RWS and becoming a founding member of the Oxford Art Society. The Ashmolean Museum has several of her works in their collection.
Sophia continued painting well into her nineties and her annotated portfolio is a fascinating record of British wildflowers. Her work is as significant today as it was in her lifetime.
We hope you enjoy our adaptations of Sophia’s art as much as we enjoy designing, making, and sharing our British-made Sophia Davenport products with you.
